Leisure Leagues would like to unreservedly apologise for the lack of notification for the league cancellation at Stantonbury Campus on Tuesday 29th November, and wanted to explain the circumstances behind this so you were all aware.
After looking at yesterday’s weather forecast for Milton
Keynes and seeing temperatures were due to drop to as low as -5 in the area, I
called the centre manager at Stantonbury Campus at 3pm to ask for advice on
whether they planned to run bookings on the All Weather Pitch on the evening,
knowing that the pitch would most likely freeze at these temperatures. I
was advised that the pitch was playable, but I requested that the duty manager
carried out a pitch inspection at 6pm and made a decision on whether it was
playable.
I called back at 6:15pm and was told that the pitch was playable and that the booking would go ahead. When Tony (the referee) arrived at 7:15pm at Stantonbury there was a notice on the gate of the All Weather Pitch saying that all bookings had been cancelled for the evening, Tony then tried to call Head Office but as we close at 7pm there was nobody here to take the call, meaning that we couldn’t contact anybody to tell them not to come to the venue.
I have spoken to the centre manager again this morning, and I have advised that we must be made aware of any cancellations by 6pm in future, and that the centre staff need to make a decision on the forecast and not how the pitch looks at that time. This will then enable us to call all team captains well in advance of the league starting to save you setting off for your matches.
We would like to advise all teams to follow their fixtures in date order from Tuesday 6th December, the cancelled games have now been moved back to the end of the season.
