Fantastic football on show in Swindon Thursday six a side

The Swindon Thursday six a side from Swindon Academy got underway with great anticipation this past Thursday after last weeks upset. With half the season now played we have entered the business stage of the season and yet it’s still all to play for between the top two. Fat and Sassy got back to winning ways with an impressive win against the in form Plough while The Lads demolished Ba Boys 9-0 to further extend their goal difference tally.

The night started with Fat and Sassy putting to bed the disappointment of last week with 6-1 thrashing of The Plough. This game saw Fat and Sassy back to their best as they combined excellent free flowing football going forward with strong and resolute defence at the back. They very rarely gave The Plough a sniff at goal and it didn’t help that The Plough were missing the creative partnership of AJ and Paget up front. The win ensures that Fat and Sassy keep up the pressure on The Lads while The Plough stay third but only two points ahead of 1980s Legends ahead of them.

Next up was the only team with a 100% record in the league The Lads. They took on Ba Boys in what’s was an exhibition in attacking football. Ba Boys are by no means pushovers and have shown themselves this season to be capable of playing excellent football but The Lads didn’t even give them chance to get out of their own half. They pressed high and won the ball in dangerous areas. Their relentless energy to cover the pitch in numbers ensured that they could win the call back quickly, get it into a dangerous area and calmly slot the ball home. The win sees The Lads stay top but with Fat and Sassy still right on their tale they know they need to keep winning. Ba Boys stay seventh in the table but at risk of being leapfrogged by Exeter unless they are able to find a win from somewhere between now and the end of the season.

Lean Team once again showed some great form to beat Exeter 4-0 in another display of excellent football from both teams. However, Lean were by far the more clinical and as a result they thoroughly deserved the win in this match. Lean Team would be the first to admit that they have underperformed this season but it seems with the draw last week and a convincing win tonight that they are starting to get their season back on track and rediscover some of their best form. The win helps them move into the mid table and if they can go on a run they could even challenge the likes of The Plough for best of the rest behind Fat and Sassy and The Lads.

The final game of the night was a tight encounter between SPEZIAL and 1980s Legends. The game represented a chance for 1980s Legends to repair the damage caused by their defeat last week when their main rival to be best of the rest - The Plough beat them. For SPEZIAL the game was a chance to get some much needed points on the board. The opening moments of the game were cagey with both teams cautious not to give anything away. Indeed for the whole game there was very little to separate the two teams and eventually only a piece of individual brilliance from the Legends could separate the two sides. The win keeps alive the Legends chance  of over taking The Plough to finish third in the closing stages of the season.
