Swindon Thursday match report
It was amazing to get the Leisure Leagues Swindon Thursday six a side at Swindon Academy back up and running. Every team was in attendance which included three new teams. There was great banter between all teams with all games being played in the right spirit.
In the first game of the night, new team Swindon Mental Health Squad took on the seasoned veterans - The Plough. Having had so long away it was understandable that both teams took time to get back up to speed. Ryan scored the first after being played in by AJ, Padge got the second with a deflected shot, but the 3rd and Padges 2nd showed his deceptive quick feet as he fired the ball into the bottom corner for a great goal. Swindon mental health rarely threatened, only forcing one save from the returning Jake. However, they showed that, with time, they will be a force to be reckoned with after getting more games under their belt.
The most hotly contested game of the night saw new team Paralympiakos take on Wellensball. It was a tight game throughout and was only decided in favour of Para when on the counter they were able to fire beneath the on rushing keeper to secure a 1-0 win.
The third game saw last seasons league champions The Lads put 8 last Spezial. The result sees them once again go to the head of the league table level on points with the Plough.
Game four was another good game as old timers Lean Team took on Exeter who returned to the league after lockdown. The first half was evenly matched but in the second, superior fitness and composure in front of goal meant that Lean Team secured an impressive 3-0 win.
The final game of the night was a friendly after Super Snails late withdrawal from the league gifted 1980s legends a handy 5-0 win.
Thanks to everyone that showed up. We can’t wait to see you again next week!
Thanks,
Dan
