Lads with one hand on title in Swindon six a side

It was another excellent night of football on Thursday in the Leisure Leagues Swindon six a side from Swindon Academy. However, Fat and Sassy’s failure to show almost certainly means that The Lads will finish the season as champions after they opened up a 2 point lead following their win against Exeter Gently. There is now only two weeks to go so teams will need to inform of their intentions for next season by the next game week. As things stand we are hoping to extend the league to 10 teams so hopefully every team will decide to stay on.

In the first game of the night The Lads took on bottom side Exeter Gently. The lads completely dominated like they have so often and ran out 9-1 winners. They shared the goals around evenly with Exeter’s one and only goal coming from Ryan. With a two point lead at the top of the table and a vastly superior goal different Fat and Sassy will have to beat The Lads when they play again and also hope that they drop points in their other game. Given that the Lads have only dropped points twice all season shows you how unlikely it is that they will do this two weeks in a row. If they do win, they will be deserving champions.

In Game 2 a barebones Plough managed to edge out Ba Boys in an unspectacular game. Down to the bare 6, including an injured Padge, an ill Aj and mouse in goal who couldn’t move Plough had it all to do. The first half was the better half for the Plough, resulting in Aj scoring and Padge getting the second, hitting the shot so hard it broke the keepers finger, everyone associated with Leisure Leagues in Swindon hope he has a quick recovery.

The second half consisted of the Plough defending and countering, made much harder when Padge could no longer continue due to his injuries. Ba boys scored with the last kick of the game in their only clear cut chance of the night. Plough will hope the rest of their team will be back for next week as they look to secure third place in the league.

The third game saw Spezial inherit an unlikely 5-0 win following Fat and Sassy’s failure to show. The win means that they have a great chance of overtaking Lean Team in the final weeks of the season to claim 5th position which would represent a solid achievement in their first full season.

Finally the game of the night saw 1980s Legends and Lean Team play out an entertaining game in which Legends just came out on top. This was despite the fact that John had to do the captains thing and go in goal. The win means that there is a chance that 1980s Legends could still overtake The Plough into third but it will take a monumental effort as well as a dose of luck. However, what ever happens, they can be proud of their efforts in their first full season at Swindon Academy.
