Lean Team Ploughed in Swindon Academy six a side

On a rain soaked night in the Swindon Thursday six a side from Swindon Academy the top two teams maintained their 100% records at the top of the table. Given that they don’t play each other until the end of the season it’s likely that they will maintain these records until they do meet such is the standard the two have set. At the other end of the table SPEZIAL beat Exeter Gently to keep them pointless at the foot of the table.

In the first game of the night the Plough showed that they are back to their best as they disposed of lean team for the second time this season. The fact that Lean Team’s keeper was man of the match in a game in which he conceded 6 tells you about the level of dominance The Plough enjoyed. The team played liquid football from defence to attack resulting it many chances for the team, leading to a hat trick for AJ, two for Padge and one for Ollie. Goal of the night involved AJ coming of the bench to win the ball from the attacker, before playing a one two with bestie, shrugging off a challenge from a defender, followed by a one two with Padge before rifling the ball into the top corner. Dan Mak was brilliant in The Plough goal and made several terrific saves before being beaten late on with a great finish from Lean Team’s striker. A fantastic all round performance.

Next up was the turn of Fat and Sassy as they took on the returning Ba Boys. The first time these teams played it was as one sided as a football match can be and even though Fat and Sassy still dominated the game Ba Boys were much closer than the first time around. Fat and Sassy needed to start pulling back the goal difference advantage have over them and do this game represents a step in the right direction.

Their competition for the league title and the only other team to have a 100% record The Lads came through a potentially tricky encounter against 1980s Legends to keep up their impressive scoring record and maintain their unbeaten start to the season. At the outset they wanted to improve on last season but if anything their performances are beyond even what they thought possible. Hopefully they can come back and regain the spark that makes them such an asset to the league.

The final game was another great match up between bottom of the league Exeter Gently and SPEZIAL FC who returned to action after an extended Christmas break. It was a thoroughly entertaining game which SPEZIAL eventually won 2-0. Both teams created plenty of chances in what was a free flowing game but Spezial edged it due to their excellent defensive play which managed to keep Owen and co at bay. The win helps Spezial move up to 5th in the table in what is a hugely competitive mid-table battle. on the other hand, it promises to be another long and difficult season for Exeter Gently Who look destined to pick up the wooden spoon prize once again.

That game concluded the nights action. If you would like to join the league we are offering free entry for the whole month of January.
