The Leisure Leagues Swindon Thursday six a side from Swindon Academy has already got a familiar feel to it with both the Lads and Fat and Sassy occupying the top two spots with maximum points from two games. What might surprise people is the order with the Lads top courtesy of a better goal difference.
It’s fair to say that the less said about the first game the better. It was a disappointing start to the night and never really got going as a game of football. Fat and Sassy did eventually emerge as 1-0 winners but it will certainly not go down as classic.
Game 2 was over as a contest almost as soon as it began. Having seen their main rivals win 10-0 the week before, the Lads were keen to come out and make a statement of their own. They did this in the most emphatic of fashions possible. They refused to let up for the entire 30 minutes and walked away as 18-0 winners. What was most pleased for Lads captain Ben was that the goals were shared all around the team. They are flying at the moment and have put a clear marker down to the rest of the league.
Game 3 was comfortably the game of the night. By this point the rain had made the surface slippery in the extreme. Tube Plough might have been missing several players but still managed to take the lead through a lovely mouse through ball to Padge who simply had to put the ball in the net. Truthfully though this was an undeserved lead, only the Plough keeper was keeping them in the game and eventually conceded, going into the half level. Legends scored twice quickly after the break. In response The Plough shifted things around which had an immediate impact as they got back into the game. Aj Ash and Bestie played some beautiful football at times, leading to Aj getting a goal back. However, as The Plough pushes forward for the equaliser 1980s Legends countered and wrapped up the game with a well managed 4-2 win.
In the final game Ba Boys responded brilliantly to their 10-0 thrashing the week before to put some manners of their own on Exeter Gently. Exeter’s captain after the game was clearly disappointed with the manner of his teams performance. He said simply “we were outclassed in every department”. He gave special mention to the Ba Boys playmaker in the purple boots (someone tag this lad). He ran the show for Ba Boys and have them the cutting edge they were lacking in the previous week.
That game concluded the nights action. Let’s hope next week that the football on show is the main talking point.
See you next week!
