The Lads secure Leisure Leagues Swindon trophy

On the final night of the Leisure Leagues Thursday six a side league from Swindon Academy The Lads finally got to celebrate the fact that they were champions of the league. Behind them Fat and Sassy bowed out as disappointing runners up. Nesbit took the MVP prize for the Lads but will need to register to claim his prize. Exeter took the wooden spoon prize but bow out of the league for a short time to recover from their defeats and lick their wounds. Next season the league is set to extend to 10 teams and with three new teams on board it promises to be one of excitement as the form book is ripped up.

In the first game of the night 1980s Legends attempted you overhaul The Plough to finish as best of the rest behind the top two. While they managed to be Exeter 3-0 with goals from Mike Gibbs, Dom Musto and Paul Bartram. However, despite the win they would still need a favour from The Plough to have any chance of claiming third place. For Exeter it was their third time at the foot of the table and after being great supporters of the league they bow out for a short time. Everyone at Leisure Leagues wishes them well and we hope to see them back soon!

In game 2 The Lads benefitted from Fat and Sassy failing to show by inheriting a 5-0 win. In reality, and given the form they have been in all season, they would most likely have won anyway. They are truly deserved champions!

In game 3 The Plough and Spezials played out a game which had no significance in the league, and showed in the performances from the two teams. The Plough struck early, Padge thundering the ball in after a good bit of interplay between himself and Aj. Plough dominated the first half, if not for the keeper keeping Padges efforts out, and the fences keeping Ash’s efforts in, then the Plough could’ve been home and dry. Into the second half Specialz struck back with a goal stemming from Ploughs Steve Ohoolahan attempting a bicycle kick on the edge of his own box, which fell to Brandon Watts to slot away. This awoken Specialz and they took the lead with a second from Brandon after Mike in goal tipped a shot onto the post, only for it to canon back into his face and the net. The smash and grab looked to be done until the last attack for Plough, Aj and Ollie taking a quick kick in, Aj bursting down the wing to cut it back to Ollie to fire into the side netting, making it 2-2. Plough take 3rd, an improvement on last season and will hope for more of the same next season.

The final game of the night was another uninspiring game between BA Boys and Lean Team. Neither team were able to find the net in a game of few chances. Both teams were nailed on to finish in the bottom half of the table and were clear enough ahead of Exeter to know that there was no risk of claiming the dreaded wooden spoon prize.
