It was a great start to our Abingdon Monday 5 a side season last night at Tilsley Park as the newly extended league kicked off with 3 divisions. For the first two weeks there will be two games played on the netted 5 a side pitches however all games will be on the boarded pitches after that.
We begin our round up in the Premier League where Fruity Spartans made a fantastic impact at the start of the season with a 6-4 win over the champions Hadland Rovers. Hadland Rovers will of course bounce back from the setback but a great game has made for another exciting title race. Victorious Secret go top of the Prem as they began with a 5-1 victory over Bunch of Bench Warmers while Hardly Athletic took a narrow 2-1 win over last seasons runners up Coopers Troopers so all to play for going into week two. In the other result SWXI and Club Tropicana Drinks took a share of the points in a 1-1 draw.
Due to the newly formed divisions of 8 FCUOB and Substandard Liege took the option to remain in Div 1 and FCUOB began with a win over Savills 12-5 to go top. Substandard Liege also started with a victory against Class On Grass 8-2. The other matches saw very tight affairs as Young Guard defeated Basically Barca 5-4 while Shlong Hanborough got the better of Cunning Stunts 5-3.
Finally we move into the newly formed Div 2 where the bottom four from Div 1 were joined by four new teams. It was one of our longstanding teams who went to the top as Survey Monkeys defeated Pique Blinders 7-2. Expected Toulouse managed to get a win in their match with TASS 7-5 while in the other two matches the new teams met. All four of the new teams seem fairly evenly matched as Ivory Toast beat Norfolk N Clue 7-4 while Unprotected Cesc defeated Abingdonnys 4-2.
Thank you to all the teams and the refs. See you all next week!
