There were plenty of thrills and spills at our Abingdon Monday 5 a side league last night as Hadland Rovers move a step closer to the Premier League title.
We start in the Premier League where Hadland Rovers took on Hardly Athletic. Desperate to maintain their lead at the top of the table Hadland were really pushed by Hardly but did manage to secure the win they needed 6-5 which moves them within touching distance of the trophy. Not giving up the chase though are former champions Club Tropicana Drinks FC who moved up into second with an impressive 8-2 win over Victorious Secret. The shock of the night came as SWXI produced an amazing performance to beat Fruity Spartans 7-5 which see's Spartans drop to 3rd. Coopers Troopers also dropped a point as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Young Guard, again another great performance by a team towards the bottom of the table. Finally Bunch of Bench Warmers won an entertaining encounter with Class on Grass 9-4.
We move into Div 1 where the top 2 came face to face as FCUOB met Shlong Hanborough in what has surely settled the title now with FCUOB going 4 points clear after a 6-3 win. This result did give Substandard Liege a chance to close the gap to Shlong to 2 points and they duly went about their business to deliver a 4-1 win over Cunning Stunts. Savills returned this week to take the points in their match with Pique Blinders winning 6-0, there was a victory for Bascially Barca as they beat Survey Monkeys 7-4 while Expected Toulouse had a big win over Tass 10-1.
