The Abingdon Monday, a 5 a side Football league, sparked into life last night with a spectacular display of matches across five divisions. As the first week of the season got underway, goals were aplenty and the competition fierce.
DIVISION ONE
In Division 1, Pablo Escoballers set the pace with an impressive 8-0 victory over champions The Six Offenders. Remarkably, The Broad Beans also ended the night on a high, hitting the back of the net 12 times against FC Unts. Royal Madrid also got their campaign off to a flying start with an 8-3 victory against Only Put Matip In.
DIVISION TWO
Over in Division 2, Pathetico Madrid displayed their prowess on the pitch with a convincing 3-0 victory against OJ UTD. On the other hand, Sons Of Pitches proved too strong for Only Kruls And Horses, with a massive 11-1 win. Meanwhile, Cunning Stunts outclassed Klopps And Robbers with a 5-0 triumph.
DIVISION THREE
In Division 3, Local Benchwarmers fell short against Expected Toulouse FC, who claimed a 6-2 victory. Optek Utd also started their campaign on a positive note, overcoming Tescos Finest 5-3. Bud Army, however, was the standout team with an 11-4 win against His Mind FC.
DIVISION FOUR
Division 4 saw a tight match between BarcaBoneHer and Casuals, which ended 1-1. OBC Saints and Ctrl Alt De Ligt also fought to a 5-5 draw. The highlight of this division was Xavi Dodgers' 7-1 drubbing of Matty And The Colonisers.
DIVISION FIVE
Finally, in Division 5, Survey Monkeys and Hardly Athletic both kicked off the season with wins, defeating AgeDoesntMata and Guehi Pride respectively 5-2 and 8-6. The match between Ange Summers and Bumfica ended in a 2-2 draw.
We look forward to the next round of fixtures and expect more thrilling performances on the pitch.
