Congratulations to our champions at Tilsley Park where our Abingdon Thursday 5 a side season came to a close last night. It's been a great season in Div 1 and 2 however due to some unreliable teams the Premier League has suffered this season unfortunately. The good news is we have a couple of new teams and will be restructuring the league for the start of the new season on the 4th November.
Congratulations to our Premier League winners Nathan Collins who get another Premier League title under their belt. Carlos Puhol finish the season as runners up, two points behind with Eagles finishing in third.
The Division 1 title goes to Wootton FC who finish with a unbeaten record of 13 wins and one draw to lift the trophy. Narcos finish as runners up with Xavi Dodgers in second spot.
Division 2 winners FC Hog had the prefect season winning all 14 of their matches scoring 124 goals in the process, really to strong for the division and will get more of a challenge in a higher league. SWXI finished runners up and will also be suited more to a higher division. Well done to both teams, I'm sure the rest of Div 2 will be glad to see the back of you though haha.
Thank you to all our refs this season and of course Dean for overseeing and running the evening along with our teams.
As mentioned above we will be restructuring the league to eliminate as many points matches as possible, of course if we have a uneven number of teams we may have one to start with. If you would like to get your team involved please register online or get in touch on 07969 731086.
We are looking for committed teams, we have stopped doing free entry, free kits etc because actually it has mostly brought in unreliable teams, in for a week or two then gone or not even turning up at all. We have always had paid entry previously and the reason is that if a team pays to enter they are usually committed, we now know why other providers have such a high turnover of teams when doing free entry. The leagues have grown to a level never expected at Abingdon in the last two years however sometimes it's worth taking a step back and having a smaller league again with teams that want to turn up every week. The new fixtures will be out on Monday morning so any new teams get signed up today or over the weekend please. Thanks Rich
