The new season at our Abingdon Wednesday 5 a side league got underway last night at Tilsley Park. 22 out of 24 sides were in attendance, unfortunately FC Spangled couldn't make it at late notice and Brad's Formula failed to appear. We will be contact both teams this week to confirm if they will be returning.
Premier League new boys Shaktar Last Night went top of the league after a opening day 9-2 victory against Hassan Utd Town FC. Shaktar have worked their way up through the divisions and will be hoping to continue their strong start next week when they take on the champions Hagdons. Moving onto Hagdons and they didn't have an easy beginning to their campaign as The More pushed them all the way before the champions held on for a 7-6 win. The other promoted side Bayern Neverlosen also gave a good account of themselves as they gave former champions Ye Mon an excellent game before losing out 10-7. Kogs's Angels took the points in their match with new boys Wellers FC winning 6-1.
Relegated Jezzy's started life in Div 1 with an impressive 11-2 victory against new team Inter Girls U16 to go top of the league. Both the promoted sides found it hard going in Div 1 as both fell to 7-3 defeats. Chamakh My Pitch Up lost to The Mighty Ducks while Spread The Play beat Crouchy Utd. In the other match Nice Guys Finish Last and Queen's Park Hydrangeas shared a 3-3 draw.
Div 2 saw Kipsta and Slough Posse win courtesy of points matches due to Spangled not being able to attend at late notice and Brad's Formula failing to appear. Ale Stars are top of the table on goals scored as they look to work their way back up to Div 1, starting with a 6-1 win over Unremarkables. Finally there wasn't much between Pathetico Madrid and Club De Cot as Madrid held on for a 4-3 win.
Thank you to all our teams and our refs Warren, Martin, Ian and Dean. Next week's event will be dependant on whether England beat Ukraine on Saturday. Of course a victory will mean we play our semi final on Wednesday night so 5 a side will of course be off so we can all cheer on the boys. Come On England!!!
