It was good to see so many teams back on a Wednesday night as Abingdon 5 a side kicked off again. There was still a few teams missing who will be returning next week and it was good to see a couple of new teams there to make their debut appearances. 5 months is a long time to be away so there was always bound to be a few team changes as the leagues started again.
Thank you to all teams for following the new guidelines in relation to Covid-19. We are working closely with Tilsley Park and teams to allow the leagues to operate and help people get back to keeping fit and playing football.
The Wednesday night league is coming to the end of the season next week. Due to the enforced break the season has been stretched out to 9 months kicking off in December, who'd have thought this year would go the way it has back then but it's great to be back.
At the top of the Premier League the top 2 met in a title decider with Saky Thirds getting the better of reigning champions Ye Mon 6-3 to take their first Premier League title. A massive congratulations to them and to Ye Mon for contributing so much to the season as always and making it a fantastic title race.
In Div 1 Fatzio secured their first 5 a side title with a 8-2 victory over Rafacakes as they move into the Premier League to challenge the big boys. Hardly Athletic also look to be heading that way as runners up, they had a points match win last night with Murder On Zidanes Floor leaving the Wednesday night league to go on the waiting list for Thursday night.
Finally in Div 2 FC Hog move into top spot and will secure the title next week with a draw or win. Last night their win came against a determined Spread the Play side who put up a good fight but ultimately went down 5-2 to Hog. Sin Bin FC failed to appear for their match last night however their captain is going to confirm if they are returning to the league later today. They are now sitting second with promotion guaranteed so it will be good to see them return.
Thank you again all teams and to those teams who played points matches. Once things settle down everything should begin to run smoothly each week. Please respect that all teams and players have different circumstances so you may have to play points matches now and again.
See you all next week
