Despite the rain, spirits were not dampened for Match Week 5 of the Weston-super-Mare Monday League.
In the first match of the night Green Pete Elite, on a high from last weeks win, were looking to build as they met 2 Girls 1 Schlupp.
In a tightly fought contest with end to end action, both teams took some time to get used to the slippery ball and surface. At the break it was 1-1. Both teams came back onto the pitch searching for the win. With 5 minutes to go it looked like a well earned draw was on the cards. However, a momentary lapse of concentration from Green Pete Elite, allowed 2 Girls a way through. Then just before the final whistle 2 Girls struck again and took the match out 3-1.
A refreshed Bareley Athletic team arrived, having spent the week scouring the Transfer Market and in true Pep style acquired 3 new players in just one week. They faced a confident La-Lla-Na Land team who are always up for a good game. It was La-Lla-Na land that struck first, but Bareley fought back, working the ball well and levelled it up before the break. Reinvigorated from the hydration break both teams came out firing and it and it was another half of end to end football. More goals came and so did more rain! The Final score 4-2 to La-Lla-Na Land. It could have been more, except for the athletic heroics of the Bareley keeper.
Finally, The new boys We Arebeloa Lot of Teams came to the park, looking to slay the giants Armitage Shanks, who, have yet to lose a match. Both teams are well organised and move the ball well. After the first 20, neither team had managed to find a way through and put the ball between the sticks. The second half started much the same and it wasn't until the mid-way point of the second half that Armitage Shanks found an opening and buried one in the net. With 5 minutes to go and playing on an advantage, the Armitage forward managed to Squeeze another one between the keeper and the post from a narrow angle.
Final Score 2-0
As we reach the mid-way point of the season, Armitage Shanks march on at the top of the table, with 2 Girls 1 Schlupp nipping at their heels. This is a division that could go any way in the second half of the season!
