Free Entry is on offer to all UWE students as two brand new 6 a side football leagues kick off in Bristol.
Students can celebrate the start of term with a game in the leagues, which take place on the state-of-the-art pitches at Lockleaze Sports Centre, with a choice of weekend or midweek matches.
Games either take place on Sunday’s between 6-8pm or Thursday’s with the later time of 7.30-9.30.
Leisure Leagues – the World’s Largest Provider of 6 a side Football – are behind the competition and their New Business Executive Jack Bullivant said that 6 a side football brought with it plenty of benefits to students: “Sport is a great way to make new friends,” stated Jack, “and with people coming from all over the country to the wonderful facilities at UWE, joining the new season, which coincides with the start of the semester is perfect.”
There are health benefits too, with a recent study in Denmark finding that a game of small sided soccer was better for fitness than a session at the gym (https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2018/06/09/bjsports-2018-099377.info)
(http://www.menshealth.co.uk/fitness/sports-training/game-on-for-five-a-side-footie-344584) Jack pointed out: “it is cheaper than a gym membership too!”
With that in mind, the new league is priced at just £25 a week – roughly £3 a player on average – but everything is taken care of. Qualified referees are used for all games and the equipment is provided.
Jack added: “We are proud of our leagues, and we are delighted to be bringing one to the UWE doorstep. We are confident that this will be a guaranteed first class for everyone….”
