Players affected by the closure of the Powerleague sites across the country have been offered a footballing lifeline by Leisure Leagues.
Last week, Powerleague announced the closure of 13 sites across Britain, amid plans to enter a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) and Leisure Leagues – the World’s Largest 6 a side football firm – are offering players in their 440 leagues, the chance to join them instead.
Leisure Leagues Executive Tom Nash said: “Whilst obviously it is regrettable that any site has had to close, and that any business suffers hard times, or that anyone has lost their jobs, we at Leisure Leagues operate the biggest League Network in the World, and we will be delighted to house any team who can’t get a game at Powerleague at one of our award winning competitions instead.”
Tom said that Leisure Leagues were already making plans to start leagues in all the affected areas – whether they already operate there or not. “Any Powerleague player should call us immediately where we would be delighted to discuss options for your teams moving forward”, he stated.
Leisure Leagues has just completed the first 6 a side Socca World Cup, which ran in Portugal in conjunction with World Group and the International Socca Federation (ISF). The final of the tournament was refereed by Mark Clattenburg – a Leisure Leagues Ambassador.
Leisure Leagues have, since their formation more than a quarter of a century ago in the Midlands, expanded their league network throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as more recently starting leagues in America and Pakistan.
Their franchise scheme, started at the end of the last decade, has become one of the fastest growing sports franchises in Britain.
