Leisure Leagues teams featured on both sides, as the Wales National 6 a side hopefuls underwent some final training ahead of the announcement of their World Cup Squad next week.

The Wales squad train at Brackla Sports Centre in Bridgend and they used a team made up of players in our Bridgend Sunday league to put them through their paces.

Several of the Wales players play in the league themselves, and as Wales Manager Barry John explained, it was a chance for the LL players to impress as much as anything: “We are always looking for new faces as we try and improve and do the best we can on the world stage,” said the South Wales Football guru, “and I’ve seen plenty today to give me food for thought next year.”

The Leisure Leagues players will be hoping to follow the likes of Kieran Miller who progressed from the ranks of his local league to the World Stage and has skippered  Wales on many occasions at World Cups and European Championships – he is pictured in the middle here with the pennant.

He, like all the others is awaiting his fate, with Barry saying: “Competition is fierce and we have to make sure we are in the best place to compete.”

The team will be competing at the second International Socca Federation World Cup in Crete later in the year, hoping to progress beyond the group stages this time around.
