The very start of 2022 is the start of a new era for 6 a side in the Staffordshire Moorlands, with the news that Leisure Leagues is coming to the brand new pitch in Leek.
The state of the art facility has just opened at Leek Town’s Harrison Park Ground and it will be hosting a league from January, and Leisure Leagues’ Jon D’Arcy couldn’t hide his delight at the news saying: “We are thrilled to be bringing our special brand of football to the community of Leek and the surrounds, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone.”
Leek Town had been without a home game for over a year, due to the pandemic and the pitch renovations, but have played two games on the new surface this week – winning one and drawing the other.
Now it’s the turn of the community, and after Leisure Leagues won the tender to operate the community football leagues on the brand new £600k renovation, it’s all systems go.
As Jon explained the journey that began at Harrison Park could end in the Caribbean. “We are proud to be driving force behind the 6 a side World Cup and in 2022 it is taking place in Mexico, on the beautiful island of Cozumel. We’ll be holding trials for all our players next year and it would be incredible to see players from Leek represented.”
That’s for the future, though, for now teams are urged to sign up for the just announced Tuesday evening league, which has free entry right now. Take advantage by this link.
Referees are also wanted – and they too could be going to Mexico, where they could rub shoulders with the likes of for Premier League and Champions League official. Mark Clattenburg – who is a Leisure Leagues ambassador.
