The brand new community 6 a side football league in Stockport kicked off this week, and it was Gamo FC who put down an early marker.
Their 8-2 thumping of Wingardium Levioscore – in which Tom Murphy scored a hat-trick was perhaps the pick of the games, but there was plenty of superb football elsewhere too.
Smuga FC had a hat-trick hero of their own, as Aidan Leigh scored half of their goals against Dan And The Boys, in a 6-1 win.
Area Manager Justin Bebbington admitted he was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s great to welcome these teams to the Leisure Leagues family, and this is just the start. This league will going from strength to strength in the coming weeks.”
Justin added that he was expecting to add another new division soon and thanked everyone at the school for their help: “We view it very much as a partnership,” said Justin “and that’s very much been the case here and things are so much better with that level of support.
Teams will now be playing for a range of things, including a spot in the Leisure Leagues Weekly Prize Draw – which is incorporated into the Leisure Leagues Live TV Show, which is broadcast on social media every Tuesday at 7pm.
That is for the future though, next week is all about league points as Wingardium take on Smuga, while Dan And The Boys will be looking to get off the mark against Sevilla Depression
