From Welywn Garden City to Karachi - But All For Leisure Leagues

When the Leisure Leagues  Legends lined up this weekend, drawing crowds of adoring fans, each with jaws-dropping at the sight of the parade of world football stars in front of them, only one was actually missing his real Leisure Leagues game take part.

David James career may have taken him from Watford to the dizzy heights of 53 England caps – by way of stints in Iceland and as a manager in India – but never before had James been to Pakistan for a game.

That changed this week, though, as he turned out  in the matches involving Ronaldhino, Robert Pires, Ryan Giggs and a whole host of legends as the power of football to bring people from all over the world together was never better shown.

But for David James, it meant a bigger sacrifice than most. For the ex-Liverpool keeper, it meant missing his Leisure Leagues match – as he explains.

James has been a regular in his local league in Hertfordshire for years and told the cameras: “I am missing an important Leisure Leagues game to be coming to Pakistan.”

When we say Legends play with Leisure Leagues, we mean it.
