A real bunch of fives yesterday saw Manchester’s newest league kick off at Trinity Sports Centre.

Appropriately enough, perhaps for a new 5aside league, there were two teams who smashed in five goals without reply as games got underway with a real bang.

Marriot Country Club sit top of the tree, after seeing off Kroos Control in a game where Dan Marriott’s brace was perhaps the pick of the displays, but Dan Harrington of RB Medlock went one better and got the season kick started with a hat-trick as his side eased past Of Rice And Menus.

There was another hat-trick hero elsewhere, with Hadley Latham helping himself to three of the five goals FC Trick Shotz hammered home against Murder On Zidanes Floor.

The other game didn’t live up to those scoring exploits, but Romasexuals and Chicken In A Bag both got themselves off the mark after playing out that rarest of things in 5 a side, a goalless draw.

It won’t get much easier for Bag next week as they take on Mariott in a tasty game, while Of Rice And Menus will be looking to order up their first points taking on Trick Shotz.

The Sunday league continues his week at 4pm and is joined by the already thriving Monday league – which is expanding tonight.
