We were delighted to welcome hundreds of new players in all corners of the country last night as started yet another five new leagues.
Chipping Sodbury School, near Bristol, was a first for us, and Goal Goal Power Rangers cruised to a 3-0 win at the top of the table against Easy Top 3.
There were a pair of leagues in the South East too, Brighton’s Portslade was a fantastic venue and 0051 West Hove Dons graced it with their 7-1 thumping of West Bank Divided, while a little closer to London Tooting and Mitcham FC saw MWS crash in five goals and throw down a marker for the rest of the season as they dismissed Undecided 5-2.
Completing the set of five star leagues were the ones at the incredible Vauxhall Motors Sports Club, which were lit up by Carwyn’s Dream’s 5-1 thrashing of Surreal Madrid. Last, but certainly not least, was Pensby High School, where West End Curls had their name up in lights deservedly, beating Seacombe Spartans 12-0.
Leisure Leagues’ Director Tom Nash said this was testament to the explosion of new teams since the leagues resumed after lockdown in March. “So many new leagues have started. It really has been incredible,” he said. “To start five in one day underlines that, and we thank everyone involved from the teams, to the referees, the venues. It is a real partnership, that’s how we see things, and this proves that it works.”
