Football managers often talk about making a fast start to the season.
Two teams took that to extremes as the brand new Gillingham 6 a side league kicked off in stunning fashion last night.
FC Puyolpantsdown (pictured) took the eye, and smashed in 10 against PSVHangovers – who were perhaps living up to their name – seeing them off 10-1 as Rav Singh took the eye and got the MVP award.
That victory was enough to put them top, with Horsted Legends also enjoying a goal-filled start, dismissing MBFC by 7-0, with Jake Gordon instrumental in the win.
Expecting Toulouse might have been named ironically, given that they had a hat-trick hero, and Reece Hyde claiming the MVP award against Heisenberg Blues, who were defeated 3-1.
Blues will be given a chance to register a first win this season in next weeks match against MBFC, while Puyolpantsdown will be looking to impress again, against SJWMF.
Area Manager Adam Glover was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s fantastic to see everyone starting in the Gillingham leagues, and the games were fantastic.”
The Sunday extravaganza joins the existing Monday league and the brand new Faversham Sunday competition, as hundreds of new players are welcomed to the Leisure Leagues family, with Adam adding: “this just shows not only the passion for football people in Kent have, but also the desperation that the country has shown for playing football after lockdown.”
The leagues resume next week, and you can see all the details here: https://www.leisureleagues.net/find-a-league/gillingham
