Let the games begin!
That’s the clear message from us tonight after Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden’s, announcement at the Downing Street Briefing that Leisure Centres and Sports Facilities could open on the 25th July. That means after 19 long weeks we can finally say these words: 6 a side football is coming home.
Dowden’s announcement is the perfect boost to our hundreds of thousands of players across the UK, and will mean that we can make good on the promise we made back in May when we said simply: “Get Ready, We Are Ready.”
Ready to get the nation fit, ready to let you get your football fix, and ready to keep leading the way. Four months of inactivity is far too long, we know, but don’t worry, we are going to help you shed the pounds and improve your mental health with some of the camaraderie that only 6 a side football can give. And that time is now!
Wherever you play with us, your league will be subject to our brand new post Covid-19 guidelines (which you can see here) and with the new Pay for Games feature that we announced this week, it will be even easier for players to ensure they have the match fee ready as it is no longer just the captain that can play for games.
These new rules and the new payment feature have been trialled in the two areas that we have been able to run in, Kilkenny and Guernsey, over the last two weeks and they have gone fantastically, and we are certain that you will be delighted with the changes.
Finally, we say to all our thousands of teams: Thank you for your patience over the last long four months when we have done as much as we can to keep us all together, with social media and initiatives like the Stay At Home Prize Draws, and we look forward to having you all back on the pitch. We know you’ve been caged up, but that inner beast can be released on the football pitch soon!
Rest assured, although we haven’t been able to run since March, our leagues are still world class, and we are still the leader that everyone else follows.
After tonight, of course, the countdown is on and we can get back to doing what we do better than anyone else: bringing communities together with the best sport in the world.
