The brand new community 5 a side football league in Leicester kicked off last night, and it was Madeira FC who put down an early marker.
Their 11-6 victory against Pathetic Madrid was perhaps the pick of the games – a stunning three players scored hat-tricks in the game, with Jake Smith, Miguel Sousa and Diogo Sousa all scoring trebles, but there was plenty of superb football elsewhere too.
Leicester Panthers cruised home 5-0 against Only Put Matip In, but Romania were grateful to Alex Dumitru, after he crashed in five of their six in a 6-3 win over Mo-Leicesters.
Area Manager Danne Masterson admitted he was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s great to welcome these teams to the Leisure Leagues family, and this is just the start. This league will be going from strength to strength in the coming weeks.”
Danne added that he was expecting to add another new division soon and thanked everyone at the Fullhurst for their help: “We view it very much as a partnership,” said Danne and that’s very much been the case here and things are so much better with that level of support.”
Teams will now be playing for a range of things, including a spot in the Leisure Leagues Weekly Prize Draw – which is incorporated into the Leisure Leagues Live TV Show, which is broadcast on social media every Tuesday at 7pm.
That is for the future though, next week is all about league points as Panthers take on Leicesters, while bottom side Madrid will be looking to get off the mark.
