The brand-new season in the official 6 a side football league in Portadown kicked off last weekend, and it was Sliced Bread who put down an early marker.
The early leaders sliced through Cormeen FC and scored seven goals, although there were a couple of crumbs of comfort for the beaten side, as they stuck in a couple of goals.
Below 10S A Win were nearly as impressive in their victory, seeing off DJRS by a 5-1 margin, and Donacloney FC were indebted to Spencer Young and Jack Dumigan who both notched a goal each as they eased out Detroit FC by a 2-0 margin.
Area Manager Carita Morris admitted she was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s great to see these teams in the Leisure Leagues family, and this is just the start. This league will going from strength to strength in the coming weeks.”
Carita explained that she was expecting to add another new division soon and thanked everyone at Annagh Athletic for their help: “We view it very much as a partnership,” she said. “That’s very much been the case here and things are so much better with that level of support.“
Teams will now be playing for a range of things, including a spot in the Leisure Leagues Prize Draw – which is incorporated into the Leisure Leagues Live TV Show, which is broadcast on social media on the first Tuesday of every month. The top prize in the draw is a trip to Benidorm for the whole team.
That is for the future though, next week is all about league points as DJRS take on Detroit FC and Cormeen FC look to get off the bottom of the table against Below 10S A Win
