The brand-new season in the latest community 6 a side football league in Oldham kicked off last night, and it was Oldham Hawks who put down an early marker.
Abdullah bagged a brace as Hawks ran out 5-3 victors against Cunch FC, who at least had Ryan McConkie at his best, scoring twice.
5-3 might be a rare scoreline, but there was another one this week, too as Bodymatters FC saw off Boom Xhaka Laka, largely thanks to Saul scoring a hattrick.
The other stars of what was a first-class opening night were Real Mail, who had Stephen Wilde and Joe Francis adding their stamp to their 2-0 win over Barrel FC.
Area Manager Adam Glover admitted he was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s great to see these teams in the Leisure Leagues family, and this is just the start. This league will going from strength to strength in the coming weeks.”
Adam added that he was expecting to add another new division soon and thanked everyone at Oasis Academy for their help: “We view it very much as a partnership,” he said. “That’s very much been the case here and things are so much better with that level of support. “
Teams will now be playing for a range of things, including a spot in the Leisure Leagues Prize Draw – which is incorporated into the Leisure Leagues Live TV Show, which is broadcast on social media on the first Tuesday of every month.
That is for the future though, next week is all about league points as Boom Xhakalaka take on EPRL FC and Bodymatters look to continue their fine start and against Barrel.
