Ex-premiership referee Peter Walton, and current star analyst on BT Sport for Champions League, Europa League and Premier Leagues games, has joined Leisure Leagues to be part of its referee ambassador team.
Leisure Leagues Development Director Martin Cassidy (pictured above right welcoming Peter) said: “I think it is well established now that all the big names and ex-Premiership referees see Leisure Leagues as their natural home once they finish in the Premiership, mainly because we are the largest small-sided leagues operator in the world, and our stance on discipline issues is pretty legendary. We are delighted to welcome Pete Walton into our team and he will be a fantastic asset moving forward to enhance our status as the world’s number one league operator”.
Peter Walton said: “I’m delighted to be a part of the Leisure Leagues team and I am very much look looking forward to visiting some of their leagues up and down the country to see the fantastic work Leisure Leagues do in bringing our great game of football to people who often don’t get the opportunities, or can’t get into 11 aside teams, but can still play a competitive game of football on the local pitch and keep physically fit and active”.
Mr Walton continued: “It’s important to remember that one of the great things that Leisure Leagues does is attract people who only want to play a half hour match, have some fun, but still be in a league table and compare themselves to other teams. As well as this, it’s amazing that Leisure Leagues gives opportunities to referees to officiate in the 6aside World Cup, on all-expenses-paid trips to exotic destinations like Crete. I can’t wait to get stuck in”.
