The brand new Reading 6 a side League kicked off in style last night, as the best competition in the area looks set to go from strength to strength.
John Madejski Academy is the venue for new league, having moved from the Prospect Park venue where it has been housed for years.
The switch means bigger pitches at the JMA, and space for new teams.
The season has carried on from where it left off last week – and the change of environment seems to have made no difference to The A Team, and they duly won their fourth game of season, seeing off Class Of 09, 3-1.
The match could make a huge difference to the season, given that 09 are serial league winners – and have even been to Germany after winning the Leisure Leagues Prize Draw.
Mantra FC are sitting in third, having seen off Ivory Toast 5-0 as Olly Higgs and Gianni Massi both bagged braces, which increases Higgs’ lead at the top of the brand new Golden Boot charts.
At the other end of the table Boom Xhakalaka picked up their first win of the season, seeing off Forest 3-1.
There is no doubt about the game of the day in division one, as leaders MMFC saw off Part Time Ballers 8-0 – their fourth win of the season. Star of the show in that one was Iain Graham, who smashed in four goals, to move into second spot in the scoring charts.
The season continues this week, with new three new teams joining. The Tuesday league is sure to be the biggest community sport event in Reading.
