Red Hot Chilies brought some hot form with them as they nailed the start of the Shepton Mallet 6 a side league as it kicked off last night.
Their 3-0 victory over Bridgwater Villains was not only the very first match of the season, it was also the biggest win of the opening fixtures.
FC Bighams are neatly in second place after a real see-saw battle which saw them edge out Heskey Reserves by the odd goal in five.
The games were much tighter elsewhere. MVP Logan Belcher proved the difference for Woodcats against Barcaboneher, as they prevailed by the only strike.
The final match was one of those rarest things. A goalless draw in 6 a side football. Asset United and Only Fans FC were clearly well-organised and tough to break down, and neither could find the way through.
They’ll get their chance to register a goal next week, as Asset take on Woodcats and Only Fans host the dangerous Bighams side.
Shepton Mallet is one of the new crop of Leisure Leagues that are springing up after lockdown, as we look to get the country moving again. All are under the new post-covid regulations, which include players not being able to get within 2 metres of the referee and online payments to cut down on the handling of cash.
