Hereford’s newest 6 a side league kicked off yesterday – and is already proving so popular that a second division is to start next Sunday.
The incredible facilities at Hereford Pegasus FC saw hundreds of local players finally given the opportunity to play in a proper community competition, as the Sunday league got underway in fine style with some thrilling grading games.
Area Manager Adam Glover said he was delighted and added: “It was wonderful to see so many local people enjoying the opening night. There is nothing quite like the first game, whether it is in the Premier League or in a 6 a side league like this, there is nothing like the anticipation and atmosphere it creates.”
Teams (like Ledbury CC, pictured) took advantage of the free kit and free entry offer, worth £150, and Adam said that the kits in particular were vital in the current climate, as he said: “As part of our commitment to making the leagues Covid-19 safe, we have asked everyone to wear a kit, so we thought we would take the cost of buying one out of the equation.”
The league, at Pegasus, has exceeded expectations and a brand new division is kicking off on Sunday, with Adam saying: “The plan was to start one division and add a second in due course, but the way this league has been taken to hearts in Hereford is incredible, so we are in a position to start the second division immediately from next weekend. That’s why the grading games are so vital, as it is essential that the league is accessible to everyone, whatever their ability.”
Anyone who wants to take advantage of the free kit and free entry offer Hereford can still do so for a limited time. To join the league, click here
