The brand-new season in the best community 6 a side football league in Herne Bay kicked off last night, and it was Over The Hill who put down an early marker.
They raced to the top of early table with a 6-0 thumping of Gangster’s Allardyce and look like the team to beat – certainly if they carry on their early form. Elsewhere, the games were tighter, Berrocca Juniors cruised home 2-0 against Bay United, and Balotellitubbies squeaked home against Top Of The Klopps.
It was, though, a goalless draw that provided the performance of the day. Reuben Coomber-Hougham was at his brilliant best between the sticks as GabsGetRammed claimed a goalless draw against Ping It, but only after Coomber-Hougham made a string of fine saves.
Area Manager Ben Schumann admitted he was delighted with the kick off and added: “It’s great to see these teams in the Leisure Leagues family, and this is just the start. This league will going from strength to strength in the coming weeks.”
Ben added that he was expecting to add another new division soon and thanked everyone at Herne Bay FC for their help: “We view it very much as a partnership,” said Ben. “That’s very much been the case here and things are so much better with that level of support. “
Teams will now be playing for a range of things, including a spot in the Leisure Leagues Prize Draw – which is incorporated into the Leisure Leagues TV Show, which is broadcast on social media.
That is for the future though, next week is all about league points as Coomber-Hougham gets the chance to show his skills again as the free scoring Over The Hill, while at least one of All Stars and Puyol Trousers Down will drop points for the first time this season as they face off.
